Phoenix Heat Treating is proud to announce that our owner and metallurgist, Peter Hushek, has been honored with the M. Lance Miller Legend Award by the Metal Treating Institute (MTI). This prestigious award recognizes Peter’s lifetime commitment to the growth and betterment of the heat-treating industry and the MTI community.
Peter is the second Hushek to receive this esteemed award, following in the footsteps of his father, Chuck Hushek, who was honored 31 years ago. The Metal Treating Institute, a trade association for commercial heat treaters, has been instrumental in advancing industry standards, job training, leadership development, and government advocacy, among numerous other initiatives.
The Hushek family’s dedication to MTI spans generations. Before Peter joined the MTI Board and served as its President from 2017 to 2018, his great-uncle, Charles I. Wesley Sr. and his grandfather, Joseph Hushek, played pivotal roles in the establishment of the association; participating in the 1937 “barn storming tour” across the country to build membership in the trade association. Charles I. Wesley is the only member to have served three terms as MTI President, leading from 1940 to 1943; a challenging period during the Great Depression when his leadership helped commercial heat treaters navigate difficult times.
Peter’s journey in the industry began after graduating from the University of Arizona in 1982 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Since then, he has been a vital part of Phoenix Heat Treating, solving complex heat-treating challenges for customers and sharing his expertise with both customers and employees. Beyond his contributions to the business, Peter remains committed to education, assisting with engineering curriculum reviews at Grand Canyon University and the University of Arizona.
We congratulate Peter Hushek on receiving the M. Lance Miller Legend Award—a well-deserved recognition for a true legend in the industry!
